Football to Square Off with Lafayette on the Road

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team will look to bounce back with a road matchup against Lafayette in Easton, Pennsylvania at Fisher Stadium on Saturday, October 29.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Wide receiver Joshua Tomas and linebacker Justin Fonteneaux picked up their second straight Patriot League Honorable Mentions after solid performances against Colgate, moving the season total to 10.
  • The Hoya wideout recorded a career-high 156 yards on 11 catches and a touchdown while No. 35 tallied 13 tackles, 11 of which were solo.
  • Tomas leads the nation with 8.6 receptions per game and sits ninth with 716 receiving yards while Fonteneaux ranks ninth in FCS with 5.9 solo tackles per game.
  • Quarterback Pierce Holley is ranked third in FCS in completions per game, averaging 27.1 while boasting a 67.4% completion rating for 14th in the nation. His 1,885 passing yards are also top three in the Patriot League and top 20 in FCS.
  • The Hoyas are ranked second in the Patriot League with 285.3 passing yards per game and 1.7 sacks allowed per game.
  • Newcomer Wedner Cadet earned a spot on the 2022 Stats Perform FCS Jerry Rice Award Watch List for the nation's top freshman. The Massachusetts native is one of four freshmen with three or more interceptions in 2022. 
  • Fellow freshman Mateen Ibirogba is also among the top newcomers in FCS, being one of nine to register three or more sacks this season and one of four with all solo sacks.

ABOUT THE LEOPARDS
  • Lafayette (2-5, 1-1 PL) enters Saturday's contest on a two-game skid but nearly knocked off No. 6/9 Holy Cross in a nail-biter last weekend.
  • The Leopards are a well-disciplined team, leading the PL in fewest penalties (5.1) and penalty yards per game (39.1). Lafayette also has the top kickoff return defense in the league, allowing 18.3 yards per return.
  • Head Coach John Troxell entered his first season in 2022, returning to his alma mater as the 29th play caller and third former player turned head coach in program history.

THE MATCHUP
  • GU and Lafayette will meet for the 25th time in program history and are in for a tightly-contested matchup having split its last four meetings with each game decided by one possession.
  • Georgetown is 3-2 in its last five trips to Easton, having won its last contest 13-6 in 2018. GU dominated defensively with three interceptions and a fumble recovered to go along with four sacks, including one from current Hoya Ibrahim Kamara for a loss of seven.
  • Overall, the Blue & Gray have taken two of its last three contests against Lafayette with its last victory coming at Cooper Field in 2019 (14-10).
