Mateen Ibirogba Captures Patriot League Rookie of the Week, Tomas Named Honorable Mention

WASHINGTON – Freshman Mateen Ibirogba dominated on Saturday, earning Patriot League Rookie of the Week while Joshua Tomas picked up his fifth-straight Honorable Mention as announced by the league on Monday.

  • Ibirogba picked up his first career and the team's fifth major weekly award of the season.
  • The Hoya freshman provided 2.5 of the Hoyas' six sacks in the team's 30-20 win over Lafayette, marking its first Patriot League win of the season. 
  • His 2.5 sacks for a loss of 14 were the most in a single game by a Hoya freshman under Head Coach Rob Sgarlata
  • The Maryland native is also tied for second among FCS freshmen with his 5.5 sacks this season, which is also the most by a freshman under Sgarlata.

Joshua Tomas | WR | Gr. | University Park, Ill. - Honorable Mention
  • Tomas compiled 12 catches for 132 yards and a touchdown, marking his fifth 100+ yard game of the season. 
  • The Hoya wideout is also three receptions away from breaking Chris Murphy's program record (74) for single-season catches. Tomas also finished the day with 189 all-purpose yards, moving him closer (4,208) to Luke McArdle's program record of 4,629.
  • The Illinois native picked up his 12th career Honorable Mention, the team's 10th of the year and his sixth of the season.
