Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hoyas Fall at Temple

PHILADELPHIA – The Georgetown University women's basketball team could not find a comeback falling 78-61 to the Temple University Owls on Saturday afternoon at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. With the loss, the Blue & Gray drops to 1-1, while the Owls improve to 1-1.

Head Coach James Howard
  • "We didn't come out aggressive enough, and we didn't handle their speed. In the third quarter, we cut it to one and then had some defensive lapses and the same thing happened at the end of the game when we were coming back. As big as we are, we left too much around the rim and we left too many free throws on the floor. Jada Claude showed us some good things with her effort tonight, and Kennedy Fauntleroy was good but we need more from everyone else around them."
How it Happened
  • Temple scored a quick four, but the Hoyas answered back with a jumper from freshman Kennedy Fauntleroy which would spark a 7-0 run capped off by a triple by the rookie.
  • It would stay a two-possession game for the remainder of the quarter, and Temple took the lead late to hold the 19-16 advantage at the end of the first period.
  • Senior Jada Claude opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer to tie it at 19, but a 7-0 Owl run forced a Hoya timeout as GU looked to regroup midway through the period.
  • Looking at a seven-point deficit in the final minute of the half, Claude scored three quick points to cut it to four, 33-29, at the break.
  • A triple from senior Kristina Moore cut the deficit to one in the first minute of the second half, but the Hoyas would not find the go-ahead bucket.
  • An 11-1 Owl run midway through the quarter put the Hoyas down and the Blue & Gray struggled to contain Temple as they got hot from beyond the arc. A 3-pointer with five seconds to go made it 57-40 at the end of the third period.
  • The Hoyas pounded it inside and drew fouls chipping away at the lead from the line. At 3:22, Claude drove the lane and made the bucket to cut it to nine 68-59.
  • Temple would answer back with five points and the Blue & Gray was never able to find the comeback eventually falling 78-61.
Of Note
  • Claude led the way with a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds.
  • Fauntleroy, Moore and Graceann Bennett all scored in double figures as the rookie managed 13 and Moore and Bennett had 10 apiece.
  • The Hoyas shot 31% (18-58) from the field and allowed 44% (27-62) shooting by the Owls.
  • Georgetown was outrebounded by Temple 48-38, and the GU defense forced 17 Owl turnovers.
Up Next
  • Georgetown will stay on the road as the squad heads to Coppin State on Wednesday for an 11 a.m. School Day Game against the Eagles.
