Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Georgetown Beats Hofstra to Advance in NCAA Tournament

WASHINGTON – The fifth-seeded Georgetown women's soccer team beat Hofstra 1-0 on Saturday afternoon to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Hoyas will play the winner of Buffalo and fourth-seeded Pittsburgh next week in Tallahassee, Florida.

Head Coach Dave Nolan
"It was a game that was so similar to many of our games this year. We played well-enough to win it by more than one and we had chances to get more than one, but couldn't quite get the second goal to kill the game. I give Hofstra credit, they're a well-coached team with some great players and they kept trying to find a way to get a goal. The players were all tired, mentally tired, and they were playing for their season so they found that extra burst of energy. Overall, we can't argue the score. We just needed to find a way to get the second goal and kill the game, but at this stage it is all about moving on to Tallahassee. That's our focus for now."

How it Happened
  • The Hoyas and Pride went back and forth through the first 45 minutes of play with Georgetown putting up eight shots to Hofstra's one.
  • Senior Julia Leas had a close look on goal from a corner played in by Tatum Lenain, but was unable to slot it in the net.
  • Georgetown came out firing in the second half with multiple breakways and pressured the Pride's backline.
  • Allie Augur played a goal kick down the right line and connected with Natalie Means. Means beat two defenders on the dribble and crossed the ball into the box where Erika Harwood smacked it into the net to put Georgetown up 1-0.
  • Hofstra did not back down as they had three close chances in the final 10 minutes of the match.
  • A free kick in the final minutes of the game forced Augur off her line and make a save as she earned the shutout for the Blue & Gray.
  • Georgetown looks to continue its 18-game winning streak in the second round of the NCAA Tournament next weekend.
