Hoyas Defeat Cal State Fullerton 63- 42

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Georgetown University women's basketball team defeated the Cal State Fullerton Titans 63-42 on Friday evening at McDonough Arena in Washington, D.C. With the win, the Blue & Gray improves to 3-1, while the Titans drop to 1-2.

Head Coach James Howard
  • "We shortened the rotation and we really leaned on our five starters along with Brianna Scott to get us off to a good start. I thought it was one of the best games I've seen us play defensively since I've been here. We've had some good games, but from beginning to end, they did a really good job of locking in and taking away Cal State Fullerton's tough motion offense."
How it Happened
  • The Hoyas came out with fierce defensive energy, forcing back-to-back turnovers on Cal State's first two possessions.
  • Georgetown freshman Kennedy Fauntleroy headed the scoring early, cashing the Hoyas' first five points.
  • GU ended the quarter on an 8-0 run, with 3-pointers from sophomore Brianna Scott and freshman Modesti McConnell over the run to give the Hoyas a 16-7 lead.
  • The Titans battled through the second quarter, cutting the lead to six to end the half with Georgetown leading 31-25.
  • The Hoyas started the second half with a Fauntleroy three, later followed by a 4-0 self-run by junior Kelsey Ransom, pushing the Hoya lead to 39-29.
  • Georgetown held control to end the third quarter, ending on a 9-3 run capped off by a Cal State turnover and subsequent fastbreak layup by Ransom to put the Hoyas up 46-32 after three.
  • The Hoyas opened the final quarter with six-straight points from Fauntleroy, giving GU a commanding 20-point lead.
  • Fauntleroy led the charge in the final period, with nine points and two threes to keep the Hoyas soundly ahead and cruising to a 63-42 victory.
Of Note
  • Fauntleroy led the way with a career-high 17 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists in the game.
  • Senior Jada Claude was crashing the boards and getting inside throughout with six rebounds as well as seven points on a team-high three made free throws in the contest.
  • Scott was a spark off the bench, putting in eight points with two triples marking season highs in both categories.
  • The Hoyas shot 40.7% (22-54) from the field and allowed 34.0% (16-47) shooting by the Titans.
  • Georgetown forced 19 Cal State turnovers, leading to 22 points, and outrebounded the Titans 37-29.
