LUBBOCK, Texas – Despite making it a one-point game with 5:46 to play, the Hoya comeback fell short on Wednesday night as Texas Tech was able to hold on for the 79-65 win as part of the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle. With the setback, the Hoyas stand even on the year at 4-4 overall while Texas Tech improves to 5-2.
ON THE RECORD
"We did a good job of playing the way we want to play - pass, move, cut, get steals - we got it to a one-possession game but then we started trying to do it on our own. Everything we did that got us to that point, we stopped doing. We also turned the ball over at an alarming rate. One of the things we talked to the team about was we have to take care of the ball, we have to do a great job on the offensive glass … if we want to win against good teams like this, we have to be able to take care of the ball and do a great job on the glass." - Head Coach
Patrick Ewing on the Texas Tech game
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Bryson Mozone and Brandon Murray each tallied 18 points as a trio of Hoyas scored in double figures. Mozone was 7-for-10 from the field and 4-for-7 from beyond the arc in 20 minutes of action off the bench.
- Murray's 18 came off 8-for-13 shooting, including a pair of triples.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half was a game of runs with the Hoyas opening up the scoring with a triple from Murray, back on the court after a two-game absence. Texas Tech responded with nine unanswered before a Jay Heath triple ended the run.
- The Blue & Gray kept chipping away and scored seven straight of its own to pull ahead 13-11 fueled by buckets from Spears, Mozone and Wayne Bristol Jr.
- The two teams traded buckets and were knotted at 16 and again at 20, but the Red Raiders found another gear and went into the break up 41-26.
- After trailing by as many as 22 (59-37), a triple from Denver Anglin sparked a 24-3 run to pull the Hoyas within one (62-61) as Spears tallied nine, Murray tallied back-to-back buckets and Bradley Ezewiro came off the bench to knock down a trio of free throws.
- It was as close as the Hoyas would get as late foul trouble sent the Red Raiders to the line. Texas Tech went on to win 79-65.
