Football to Host Saint Francis (Pa.) on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team will look to build on its win over Lafayette when Saint Francis (Pa.) comes to the Hilltop on Saturday, November 5 with kickoff slated for 12:30 p.m. at Cooper Field.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas picked up its first Patriot League win of the season against Lafayette, earning a 30-20 win behind six team sacks and four total touchdowns on offense.
  • Freshman Mateen Ibirogba picked up his first career and the team's fifth major weekly award of the season, being named Patriot League Rookie of the Week.
  • The Hoya defensive lineman provided 2.5 of the Hoyas' six sacks in the team's 30-20 win over Lafayette, marking its first Patriot League win of the season. His 2.5 sacks for a loss of 14 were the most in a single game by a Hoya freshman under Head Coach Rob Sgarlata. The Maryland native is also tied for second among FCS freshmen with his 5.5 sacks this season, which is also the most by a freshman under Sgarlata.
  • Joshua Tomas earned his fifth-straight PL Honorable Mention after a solid day in Easton, compiling 12 catches for 132 yards and a touchdown to mark his fifth 100+ yard game of the season. The Hoya wideout leads the nation with 9.0 receptions per game and sits third with 848 receiving yards.
  • Quarterback Pierce Holley is ranked fourth in FCS in completions per game, averaging 27.3 while boasting a conference-leading 68.1% completion rating for 14th in the nation. His 2,135 passing yards are second in the Patriot League and top 20 in FCS.
  • Newcomer Wedner Cadet secured his fourth interception of the season against Lafayette, tying several others for third in FCS and is one of four freshmen nationally to tally four this year. The Massachusetts native also leads all freshmen and is fifth nationally with 94 return yards. 

ABOUT THE RED FLASH
  • Saint Francis enters the weekend 6-2 overall after capturing a spot in the FCS National Playoff as the NEC's bid following a win over Sacred Heart last Saturday.
  • Quarterback Cole Doyle and the Red Flash are coming off FCS FedEx Ground National Player and Team of the Week performances. Doyle tied the program-record with five passing touchdowns, going 22-for-28 and 264 yards through the air while adding 56 yards and one touchdown on the ground. 
  • Through eight games, Saint Francis has allowed the fifth-fewest passing yards per game at 165.1 and is ranked 10th in FCS in scoring defense at 17.6 ppg.
  • Head Coach Chris Villarrial has accumulated a 67-50 record over his 11 seasons. 

THE MATCHUP
  • The Hoyas and the Red Flash will meet for the 13th time in program history with the Blue & Gray leading the series at 9-3.
  • Both teams have only met twice since the turn of the century, splitting the matchups with GU earning a 36-7 victory in 2004 while Saint Francis picked up the win in 2015.
