Tomas Makes History as Hoyas Fall to Saint Francis (Pa.)

WASHINGTON - Joshua Tomas became the single-season and career record holder for most receptions as the Georgetown University football team fell to Saint Francis (Pa.) 38-24 on Saturday afternoon.

ON THE RECORD
"It was a good back-and-forth game against a really good team that is about to go to the playoffs. Coach Villarrial has done an incredible job building that program and you can't turn the ball over against a quality opponent, which is what we did in the third. We had some great individual performances today and I've been saying it all season, Joshua Tomas is the best receiver in the league and maybe at this level. It was great to see his body of work credited with the records that he broke today. Wedner Cadet is an impact player at corner for us, had another interception for a touchdown and continues playing at an extremely high level. I give credit to our guys for coming back and playing a tough, hard-nosed fourth quarter trying to get us back in it. Not the result we wanted and we'll work on correcting our mistakes before welcoming Bucknell to the Hilltop next week." - Head Coach Rob Sgarlata on today's contest against Saint Francis

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Tomas had a stellar afternoon, making seven catches for a personal-best 180 yards and two touchdowns. His 180 receiving yards are the most in a game since Cameron Crayton put up 190 on Columbia in 2021.
  • The GU wideout set the single-season record for receptions with 79, surpassing Chris Murphy's mark of 74.
  • The Illinois native also set the all-time Hoya record for most career receptions in Blue & Gray with 207, smashing the previous mark held by Murphy as well (205).
  • Cadet ran back GU's first pick-six since 2018, registering his Patriot League-leading fifth interception of the season. The freshman corner also tied Justin Fonteneaux with a team-high eight tackles.
  • The Hoya freshman has tallied 125 return yards on interceptions and continues to rank nationally in both categories.
  • Pierce Holley put forth a solid day for the Hoyas going 20-for-39 for 281 passing yards and two scores.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Georgetown jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a 51-yard touchdown pass from Holley to Tomas with just under seven minutes to go in the first quarter.
  • Cadet intercepted a pass to the right side, taking it to the house for a 31-yard return and 14-0 lead. The Red Flash responded with a pair of scores in the second quarter.
  • Holley connected with Tomas on a 75-yard touchdown with under a minute to go before ending the half ahead 21-14.
  • The Red Flash scored 24 unanswered points in the third quarter (38-21).
  • Richard Abood II kicked a 19-yard field goal in the final frame but Saint Francis staved off the Hoyas for a 38-24 final.
