Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hoyas Take 74-47 Win Over Navy

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team defeated the Navy Midshipmen 74-47 on Sunday afternoon in nonconference action at McDonough Arena. With the win, the Blue & Gray improves to 7-3 overall and makes it three in a row, while the Mids drop to 0-11 on the year.

Head Coach James Howard
  • "I thought we came out and established ourselves defensively, we took them out of their rhythm to get the lead. I also thought that, for the third straight game, we were able to score the basketball. There are things we need to clean up and improve on, but I saw us getting more consistent today. This was a team win, everyone had an opportunity to play and contribute to the win which is what we will need going forward. We set a goal to go into the DePaul game at 7-3, so I'm proud that's completed and we're working towards out next set of goals. We are looking forward and preparing, but this week we know we need to keep out minds right to focus on academics and finals."
How it Happened
  • Georgetown dominated the first quarter as the Hoyas scored first and didn't look back.
  • A triple from freshman Kennedy Fauntleroy at 2:34 gave GU its largest lead to that point with the 19-7 advantage.
  • Navy would score a pair of late buckets to make it 19-10 at the end of the first.
  • The second period began with an 8-0 Hoya run sparked by a 3-pointer by junior Kelsey Ransom, and ended with a pair of scores by graduate student Kristina Moore.
  • The Mids would answer, but Ransom came down and hit another from downtown to spark another run.
  • A pair of 3-pointers from sophomore Brianna Scott continued to build GU's lead as the Hoyas went into the break leading 42-19.
  • Georgetown led by as many as 23 to start the second half, however the Mids did not go away quietly as they tried to chip away at the lead.
  • The Blue & Gray would stop any comeback attempt, and a 3-pointer from Scott at the buzzer would make it 58-36 heading into the final period of action.
  • The Hoyas kept up the momentum in the last 10 minutes resulting in the 74-47 final score.
Of Note
  • Scott led the way with a career-high 22 points including a 4-5 performance from beyond the arc and three rebounds.
  • Ransom and Fauntleroy were the other two Hoyas in double figures with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
  • Ransom also led the Hoyas with eight rebounds, while Moore added five assists in the win.
  • The Hoyas shot an impressive 45.8% (27-59) from the field and 47.4% (9-19) from beyond the arc, while allowing 40.0% (18-45) shooting by the Mids.
  • Georgetown forced 22 Navy turnovers on 13 steals, and outrebounded the Midshipmen 34-31.
