STORRS, Conn. – Despite using a 12-0 run early in the second half to build a 60-53 lead, the Georgetown University men's basketball couldn't hold on as the squad fell 84-73 to the No. 2/2 UConn Huskies on Tuesday night. With the road setback at Gampel Pavilion, the Hoyas slip to 5-8 with an 0-2 mark in BIG EAST action while the Huskies remain undefeated at 13-0 with a 2-0 record in league play.
ON THE RECORD
"[The Huskies] have two very good bigs who can score and they have guys who can knock down perimeter shots. They took 30 [3-pointers] tonight. I thought that we did a great job when we got the lead of not giving them those three's. But when we kind of exhaled and started giving them the three, it was like the dam just burst." - Head Coach
Patrick Ewing on the game
"UConn performing the way they are this year - I knew it was going to be a dogfight. I thought we were ready to go, I know we didn't get the win just like Coach said but I thought as a group, we fought and that's all you can ask for. The energy in the locker room is great. Like I said, it's a loss, but like Coach said, we took a step as a group. We talked about team vs. self today and I thought we played together, played defense as a team and we made strides." -

HOW IT HAPPENED

- With the Huskies up four (21-17, 11:43), the Hoyas staged an 8-2 run sparked by a Bradley Ezewiro layup and capped with Wahab's signature hook shot to take a 25-23 advantage (8:00).
- The UConn lead ballooned to as many as eight (45-37, 0:54) before a Heath triple took it back to a two-possession game. However, late free throws would give the home team the 47-40 advantage going into the locker room.
- Coming out of the break, the teams traded a bucket each before the Blue & Gray staged a 12-0 run sparked by another Heath 3-pointer and featuring an Akok alleyoop dunk on the Spears dish, prompting the UConn timeout (16:42).
- Georgetown's lead was extended to seven (60-53) on the Bryson Mozone jumper with 11:50 on the clock.
- The Huskies wouldn't go away and started to chip away at the Hoya lead, eventually knotting the game at 62 (9:29). UConn would not look back, taking the 84-73 win at the final whistle.
