Georgetown Downs Knights 74-60

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Georgetown University women's basketball team held on and defeated the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights 74-60 on Friday evening in nonconference action at Stratis Arena. With the win, the Blue & Gray improves to 6-3 overall, while the Knights drop to 7-3 on the year.

Head Coach James Howard
  • "This was a great team victory tonight with four of our players scoring in double figures. Kelsey (Ransom) was instrumental, but Kristina (Moore) adding 12 and Bri Scott having 11 and nine were all keys to the win. What I really like to see, is Kennedy (Fauntleroy) with 10, Grace (Bennett) with eight and Jada Claude with seven. Getting those type of numbers from so many people made a difference. This was a team performance on their home court so I was pleased with our efforts tonight."
How it Happened
  • The Knights were hot from beyond the arc early, however GU answered back with midrange jumpers to take the 12-10 lead on a bucket by junior captain Kelsey Ransom midway through the first period.
  • Georgetown continued to push the ball and force turnovers resulting in the 21-18 Hoya lead at the end of the first.
  • The Blue & Gray opened the second quarter on a 12-4 run with balanced scoring from the starters.
  • As GU looked to pull away, the Knights weren't finished with back-to-back 3-pointers and a bucket to close out the half making it 43-30 at the break.
  • FDU opened the second half with another triple as they tried to chip away at the lead.
  • The Knights would cut it to nine on a three at the 6:21 mark, however a 7-0 run with layups from Ransom and Graceann Bennett as well as a 3-pointer by Brianna Scott put GU back comfortably ahead.
  • FDU would mount a comeback with back-to-back 3-pointers to begin the final period forcing a GU timeout.
  • As the shots would not fall for the Hoyas, the Knights made it a nine-point game on a 9-0 run to put the score at 66-57.
  • The GU drought would end with a Ransom layup, and Georgetown would cruise to the 74-60 victory.
Of Note
  • Ransom led the way with 15 points as one of four players in double figures for the Hoyas.
  • Graduate student Kristina Moore posted 12, while sophomore Brianna Scott and Fauntleroy would have 11 and 10, respectively.
  • Scott led the Hoyas with nine rebounds, while Moore added six assists in the win.
  • The Hoyas shot an impressive 50.0% (32-64) from the field and 33.3% (5-15) from beyond the arc, while allowing 40.4% (19-47) shooting by the Knights.
  • Georgetown forced 17 FDU turnovers on seven steals, and outrebounded the Knights 39-28.
