Georgetown Falls at St. John’s

QUEENS, N.Y. – The Georgetown University women's basketball team fell 79-45 to the St. John's University Red Storm on Friday evening at Carnesecca Arena in a BIG EAST Conference matchup. The Hoyas fall to 7-14 on the season and 2-11 in conference play.

How it Happened
  • St. John's (10-15, 6-9 BIG EAST) struck first, but it was sophomore Kelsey Ransom who carried the Hoyas with the first five points of the game for the Blue & Gray.
  • The Red Storm answered back with a 14-2 run to close out the period as SJU led 21-7 at the end of the first quarter.
  • A GU scoring drought spanning seven minutes and two quarters allowed St. John's to build up a 24-point lead until a free throw from junior Graceann Bennett stopped the run
  • The Hoyas would never get it going as the Red Storm continued to hit with GU trailing 43-14 at the break.
  • Georgetown came out fired up after the break starting it off with buckets from graduate student Kaylin West and freshman Ariel Jenkins.
  • St. John's would answer with a triple, but the Hoyas were mounting a comeback.
  • It was the emergence of Jenkins making the difference as she scored nine points in the quarter. However, the Red Storm was able to match her efforts making it 60-34 at the end of the third.
  • SJU got hot from beyond the arc early in the fourth quarter and Georgetown could not find a way back as the Hoyas eventually fell 79-45.
Of Note
  • Ransom led the way as the lone Hoya in double figures with 11 points and a team-best seven rebounds in the game.
  • Jenkins had nine and West managed eight for the Blue & Gray.
  • The Hoyas shot 28% (17-61) from the field and allowed 46% (28-61) shooting by the Red Storm.
  • Georgetown was outrebounded by St. John's 52-26, and the GU defense forced 15 Red Storm turnovers.
