WASHINGTON – The Georgetown softball team opened its 2022 season on Friday afternoon against East Carolina (6-5) followed by a second with Coastal Carolina (9-4). The squad is competing in Coastal Carolina's Kickin' Chicken Classic along with ECU and Purdue in Conway, SC.
How it Happened
Vs. East Carolina
- Georgetown came out swinging in the first inning going up three on ECU.
- The Pirates quickly earned two runs in the second and held the Hoyas to no runs through the third.
- East Carolina was able to level the score, but GU returned the run in the sixth inning to get ahead 4-3.
- ECU's run in the seventh forced the game into extra innings where the Pirates went up two runs while Georgetown was only able to get one and ECU clinched the win 6-5.
- Georgetown's Alyssa Chavez hit the Blue & Gray's first homerun of the season and her first in her career as a Hoya.
Vs. Coastal Carolina
- GU scored in the first inning with the next three innings seeing no change in score (1-0).
- In the fifth inning Coastal found a rhythm and were able to score six runs on Georgetown's two runs with three of them being home runs by the Chanticleers.
- In an effort to level the score Georgetown put up one run in the sixth inning, but CCU held onto its lead and closed the game out 9-4.
Georgetown plays ECU at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 12 and then Coastal Carolina at 3 p.m. (ESPN3).To close out the weekend's matchups Georgetown is set to play Purdue at 10 a.m on Sunday, February 13.
