Georgetown Back in the District After Opening Weekend on the Road

WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball played its last game in Coastal Carolina's Kickin' Chicken Classic this morning in Conway, South Carolina. The team matched up with Purdue for the first time in the tournament resulting in a close game as the Boilermakers sneaked by with the win 6-4 over the Hoyas.

How it Happened
  • Georgetown scored first when Alyssa Chavez hit a double to left center field giving Brittany Lew time to get around the bases putting the Hoyas up 1-0.
  • Purdue went on a hitting streak through the next five innings with six runs over Georgetown heading into the fifth.
  • The Hoyas had bases loaded in the fifth inning as Mae Forshey's hit forced a Boilermaker to error sending Cassie Henning home to make the score 6-2.
  • The Hoyas made a strong effort to come back in the sixth when Alyssa Chavez hit second home run of the weekend which brought in two runs (6-4). Unfortunately, the Hoyas were not able to get back on the board through the seventh inning leaving Purdue to take the game.
