Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Georgetown Falls to Marquette

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team lost a tough one to the Marquette University Golden Eagles 64-57 Friday evening at McDonough Arena in a BIG EAST Conference matchup. The Hoyas fall to 7-16 on the season and 2-13 in conference play.

How it Happened
  • Marquette (18-8, 11-6 BIG EAST) jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead, but the Hoyas settled down and came right back on the play of freshman Ariel Jenkins.
  • The rookie as well as sophomore Kelsey Ransom battled in the paint to keep it close, but a late run allowed MU to pull ahead 20-12.
  • At the 7:51 mark, a pair of Golden Eagle free throws allowed MU to go up by 12, but free throws by graduate student Mary Clougherty and a jumper by classmate Milan Bolden-Morris stopped the momentum.
  • A layup from senior Jillian Archer sparked a 6-0 run as the defense got stops on the other end and GU cut it to 30-26.
  • Marquette would answer back, but a layup from freshman Brianna Scott just before the buzzer made the score 33-28 at the half.
  • The Golden Eagles clung to a small lead throughout the third as the Blue & Gray threatened.
  • With every advance, Marquette always had an answer, and despite making it a one-point game with less than two minutes in the period, MU went on a late run to make it 49-43 at the end of the third.
  • Georgetown opened the final quarter with a huge triple from Bolden-Morris.
  • The Hoyas cut it to four at the 6:08 mark, but Marquette managed a 6-1 run to regain control.
  • In the end, the comeback would never materialize as GU fell 64-57.
 Of Note
  • Bolden-Morris and Jenkins led the way with 12 points apiece, while Ransom added 10.
  • Freshman Brianna Scott managed eight points to go along with a team-high seven rebounds.
  • The Hoyas shot 38.2% (21-55) from the field and allowed 41.3% (26-63) shooting by the Golden Eagles.
  • Georgetown was outrebounded by Marquette 39-34, and the GU defense forced 11 Golden Eagle turnovers.
