Georgetown Falls to UConn in Home Opener

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown softball team lost to UConn in its home opener on Friday evening, 7-3. The Hoyas gave up four runs by the fourth and were unable to match the score for the win. With the loss, Georgetown falls to 10-12 overall and 1-1 in the BIG EAST and UConn rises to 13-10 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
 
Graduate students Alyssa Chavez, Mae Forshey and Savannah Jones each had a hit on the night with freshman Kayla Dunn putting up two. Chavez's hit raises her batting average to .400, Forshey to .325 and Jones to .271. Jones' home run in the fourth made it her sixth of the season and she is tied with six other players in the BIG EAST for most home runs in the conference. 
 
The Huskies opened scoring early in the game going up 4-0 by the fourth. Jones responded with a homer to center field to cut the deficit to 4-1, but UConn added three more runs by the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, Dunn's single helped Gianna Scuillo to advance across the plate to make it 7-2. Gabby also crossed home plate but it was not enough as UConn closed out the game 7-3.
