Box Score WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball made its last at bats count today as Alyssa Chavez's walk-off home run lifted the Hoyas to a 7-5 win over the UConn Huskies. This is the first conference loss for Connecticut as they fall to 4-1 and the Hoyas rise to 2-1.
Senior Kiki Besnard's homer in the third put Georgetown on the board. In the fifth, shortstop Savannah Jones' hit brought pinch runner Brittany Lew around to score (2-0). Later in the inning the Huskies' left fielder launched a ball towards home plate but the catcher was unable to control it, giving Besnard time to slide into home (3-0). Abby Smith had her first hit of the weekend, driving in two tallies on her double to left (5-0). UConn had a two-run home run followed by a three-run homer to tie the game in the top of the seventh. Smith lined a leadoff single off the wall in center before Chavez stepped in and launched a two-run shot to right center, lifting the Blue & Gray to a 7-5 win.
Chavez now has a .397 batting average, Smith with .333, Mae Forshey with .325 and Jones at .288. With 17 at-bats, Abbey Schiller is hitting .353 and has recorded six hits.
