WASHINGTON – The Hoyas lost to the George Washington Colonials on Wednesday afternoon in a close game that saw GW get win by just one run (8-7). Georgetown falls to 11-14 on the season and GW rises to 17-10.
How It Happened
- Lead-off batter Mae Forshey hit a dinger over the left field fence to put the Hoyas up 1-0 in the first.
- Two batters later, Abby Smith hit an identical homer to double GU's lead 2-0.
- George Washington put up a number of hits resulting in seven runs by the end of the third.
- The Hoyas responded in the fifth with Savannah Jones' single to left allowing Sophia Scarangella to round third and cross home making it 7-3.
- With Smith back up to bat in the fifth, she drilled her second home run of the night for a two-RBI hit closing the score to 7-5.
- The Colonials had the bases loaded in the seventh and were able to advance the runner home off a groundout (8-5).
- Georgetown was not finished yet as Jones capitalized on a throwing error by GW to add another run to the scoreboard 8-6.
- Cameron Kondo stepped in and tucked a ball into the unmanned outfield, bringing Gianna Sciullo around to score to make it 8-7, but the Hoyas were unable to get the equalizer.
