WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball lost to Providence on Friday afternoon 6-8 in the first game of a three-game series. The Hoyas fall to 2-3 in the BIG EAST as the Friars rise to 6-4. GU and Providence face each other again tomorrow at 1 p.m.
How It Happened
• Both sides went scoreless through the first three innings.
• Heading into the fourth, Georgetown's
Abby Smith smashed a ball clear of the fence to put the Hoyas up 1-0.
• The Friars quickly responded with a pair of hits by Kari Shedrick and Tori Grifone to advance runners home (3-1).
• Providence continued its run as Madi Traver, Jacque Harrington, and Grifone each knocked doubles to left field bringing in another five runs (8-1).

Mae Forshey closed the deficit in the seventh with a three-run homer out of left field making it 8-4.
• Smith added to her performance with her driven ball to left field and brought
Savannah Jones home (8-5).
• The Hoyas finished 8-6 against Providence when
Cameron Kondo's walk pushed
Alyssa Chavez across the plate for one final run.
