WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's tennis team came out victorious over Howard University (1-4) Tuesday night. The Hoyas (4-6, 1-1 BE) swept the Bison 4-0 and wrapped up the match early after clinching the win.
How It Happened
- Georgetown defeated two of the three Howard doubles teams to earn its first point of the match. Graduate student Scott Bickel and sophomore Derek Raskopf defeated Howard's Kyle Martin and Gabe Knowles 6-2, giving Raskopf a win in his first appearance for the Hoyas. Freshman Charlie Suh and junior Harry Yang paired up to take down Howard's second doubles 6-2.
- Bickel was the first Hoya to win his singles match, defeating Tory Bailey 6-2, 6-1 in two sets.
- In his first match of the season, senior Carlos Grande took down Martin 6-3, 6-2 to give Georgetown a 3-0 lead in the match.
- After a strong first set, Suh found himself battling from behind against Daniel Dunac. Suh took the first set 6-1 but faltered and found himself in a 5-2 hole in the second set. The freshman took five straight games to the set and subsequently the match, clinching the team win 4-0.
- Yang led 6-1, 6-5 before the dual was called and nearly earned a fifth point for the Hoyas. Freshmen Akira Morgenstern and Adhvyte Sharma had dropped their first sets but were battling back in the second before Georgetown secured the win.
