CAYCE, S.C. – The Georgetown University men's team fell in the final match of its season on Friday, dropping the BIG EAST quarterfinals 4-3 to #4 Butler University at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Club. The Hoyas finish the spring season with a 7-12 record.
How It Happened
- The Hoyas split the first two doubles matches with the Bulldogs, winning over Butler's No. 3 and falling to its No. 1 doubles.
- Georgetown's Akira Morgenstern and Andrew Rozanov took the No. 2 pair to a tiebreaker, but the Hoyas fell just short in the match. Georgetown trailed 1-0 at the conclusion of the first three matches.
- Freshman Adhvyte Sharma worked quickly to get the Hoyas back in the match, downing his opponent in two quick sets and tying the match at 1-1.
- Kieran Foster and Rozanov dropped each of their two sets at the No. 1 and No. 2 slots, and the Hoyas fell behind 3-1 to the Bulldogs.
- Georgetown refused to quit, though, as No. 4 Scott Bickel and No. 6 Morgenstern fought back from a set down and evened their matches. Both matches lasted over two hours, with Morgenstern winning his third set after 2:05 and Bickel claiming victory in 2:09.
- The final Hoya standing was freshman Jake Fellows, locked in battle with his opponent at No. 3. Fellows clawed his way back from a 4-1 deficit, winning two games before fatigue kicked in. The freshman dropped his final, hard-fought set after 2:35 in the 84-degree weather.
