Georgetown Heads Home after 0-3 Weekend in Chicago

WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball fell to DePaul 13-9 this afternoon in Chicago in the final game of the two sides' series. The Hoyas are now 13-26 overall and 3-14 in the BIG EAST and the Blue Demons rise to 24-19 overall and 12-6 in conference play.

How It Happened
  • Graduate student Cameron Kondo lofted a ball straight out of center field in the top of first putting Georgetown up 1-0.
  • DePaul responded with a single in the top of the first to even the score 1-1.
  • The Blue Demons followed up with a triple to right center for two runs, a two-run homer, two walks for one run each, a groundout leading to a runner crossing the plate, and three-run home run all in the first inning (12-1).
  • In the second, DPU hit a double to left for a run, raising the score to 13-1.
  • The Hoyas battled back in the fifth as Savannah Jones' fly out to center brought Sophia Scarangella across home (13-2).
  • Mae Forshey slipped a double down the left line and Cameron Kondo showed her speed to cross the plate (13-3).
  • Still in the fifth, Alyssa Chavez slapped a ball up the middle to bring Forshey home (13-4).
  • Nora Campo stepped up to pinch hit and launched a ball out over the center field fence for two runs to close the score to 13-6.
  • Abby Smith followed with a homer to left center in the seventh (13-7).
  • Chavez found herself at the plate again in the seventh and drilled a homer out of left (13-8).
  • Campo repeated herself from the fifth as she homered to left center to make it 13-9, but the Hoyas were unable to close the deficit any further and the score remained unchanged.
