Hoyas Defeat the Red Storm on Day Two

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown softball team downed St. John's 6-3 on Saturday afternoon to go 1-1 with the Red Storm in BIG EAST series. The Hoyas rise to 14-26 overall, 4-14 in conference, and SJU falls to 11-32 overall and 5-15 in the BIG EAST.
 
How It Happened
  • St. John's got on the board first from a Georgetown's fielder's choice to advance a player home (1-0).
  • Cameron Kondo responded in the first by launching a ball deep over the center field fence (1-1).
  • In the second, Alyssa Chavez homered, knocking a ball clear of left field (2-1).
  • SJU's London Jarrard tripled in the third and the Red Storm had a runner cross the plate to even the score (2-2).
  • In the fourth, Jarrard singled to bring Natalie Alheidt home for one run (3-2).
  • With bases loaded in the fourth, Savannah Jones slipped a ball down the middle to get Lorena Vasquez-Inzunza across the plate (3-3).
  • Behind Jones, Mae Forshey stepped up and shot a ball to right center as Kiki Besnard and Cameron Kondo rounded the bases to get home, bumping the score to 5-3.
  • Jones homered to left in the sixth to close out scoring 6-3.
 
Of Note
  • Julia Parker pitched the whole game today, striking out seven batters, after throwing all seven innings yesterday as well.
