Vasquez-Inzunza’s Grand Slam Secures Hoyas’ Win

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown softball team secured a 9-6 win at Towson on Wednesday afternoon. The Hoyas raise to 12-17 as the Tigers fall to 11-20. 
 
How It Happened
  • Towson's Sydni Byers singled to second in the first inning and Nicole Kidwiler scored (1-0).
  • Briana Ramirez crossed the plate from Madyson Peters' groundout to second to make it 2-0.
  • With Byers on base, Cori Jones hit a triple getting Byers time to make it home (3-0).
  • It was not until the fourth when Georgetown put its first run on the board. Abby Smith stepped up and drove a line ball to left which Savannah Jones capitalized on to close the deficit 3-1.
  • The Hoyas popped off in the sixth beginning with Alyssa Chavez's double to left bringing Mae Forshey and Kiki Besnard home tying the game 3-3.
  • Chavez was able to avance from third on a wild pitch making it 4-3 followed by Gabby Nemarich getting the Hoyas' fifth run off of Gianna Sciullo's single (5-3).
  • To close out the top of the sixth, Lorena Vasquez-Inzunza hit a bomb over the fence for a grandslam to bump the score to 9-3.
  • The Tigers were able to get a couple of hits in the bottom of the six to reel in three runs to close the game 9-6.

Georgetown is set to play a series against Villanova in Pennsylvania April 8-10.
