WASHINGTON – Georgetown University football team has announced its 11-game schedule, presented by MedStar Health, for the 2022 fall season on Friday. The Hoyas will welcome six opponents to Cooper Field in the fall, including Lehigh in its home opener on September 10.
"I am extremely excited for a very challenging and unique 2022 campaign. We are looking forward to an early season Patriot League game with Lehigh on the Hilltop. I am also looking forward to the next installment of the Lou Little Series with Columbia and welcoming Penn back to D.C. Marist, Monmouth and St. Francis will complete our nonconference schedule designed to prepare us for the challenges of the Patriot League race." - Head Coach
Rob Sgarlata on the 2022 campaign.
The Blue & Gray will open the season on September 3 at Marist after the two programs had its 2021 opener canceled. It will be the 23rd all-time meeting between the two programs, with GU holding a 17-5 advantage in the series. In last year's official opener against Delaware State, the Hoyas secured a 20-14 win behind a game-winning touchdown from
Joshua Stakely in overtime.
Georgetown will return to the Hilltop in week two when Patriot League foe Lehigh comes to town on September 10. The Hoyas and the Mountain Hawks squared off in the final game at Cooper Field last season with the visiting team taking the contest, 23-9. GU will look to secure its first win against Lehigh since 2018 when they knocked off the Leopards 22-16 in double overtime.
The Hoyas will head to Monmouth for the first time since 2004 when the two square off in West Long Beach, New Jersey on September 17. The contest will mark just the third all-time meeting between the two programs.
In week four, GU will look to bring the Lou Little Trophy back to the District when it welcomes Columbia to Cooper Field on September 24. The Hoyas have split its last six games against the Lions while the meeting will mark the ninth overall contest between the two programs since 1901.
Georgetown will hit the road in week five for a Patriot League showdown against the Fordham Rams on October 1, marking the first visit to Jack Coffey Stadium since 2018. The Hoyas took control in the Bronx that day as
Cameron Crayton reeled in an 18-yard touchdown pass before
Herman Moultrie III scored twice on the ground late in the game to knock off the Rams, 23-11.
Before their bye week, the Hoyas will welcome the University of Pennsylvania to Cooper Field on October 8 for the first time since 2008. It will be the seventh all-time matchup between the two historic schools.
The Blue & Gray will hit the road for back-to-back weekends following its bye, heading to Colgate on October 22 before facing off with Patriot League foe Lafayette on October 29. The Hoyas came out of Easton, Pennsylvania with a 13-6 win against the Leopards in their last visit on October 13, 2018 with Gunther Johnson rushing for a pair of touchdowns.
Following the two-game road trip, Georgetown will wrap up the 2022 campaign with three-straight home games, beginning with St. Francis on November 5. GU and the Red Flash will meet for the 13th time in program history with the Hoyas holding a 9-3 overall record.
Bucknell will visit the Hilltop in week 11 as Georgetown will look to build upon its 2021 victory over the Bison.
Pierce Holley connected with Crayton for a touchdown early before taking an 8-yard run to the house late in the fourth. Moultrie III sealed the game with a 33-yard rushing score to down Bucknell 29-21.
The Hoyas will round out their three-game homestand with a meeting against reigning Patriot League Champions Holy Cross in the season finale on November 19. GU will also host its senior day when the Crusaders come to town.
