Georgetown Falls 10-9 to Delaware in NCAA First Round

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's second-ranked men's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaking 10-9 decision to Delaware in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday night. The Blue Hens scored the game winner with eight seconds remaining to end the Hoyas season at 15-2 overall.

About Georgetown

The Hoyas conclude the 2022 campaign with a 15-2 record and the most wins in program history.
Graham Bundy Jr. led Georgetown with three goals while Alex Trippi added two goals and an assist.
TJ Haley and Declan McDermott both had a goal and an assist while Connor Morin and James Reilly each posted lone goals. Alex Mazzone had an assist for the Blue & Gray as well.
Reilly went 14 for 23 on faceoffs and collected nine ground balls.
Defensively, Zachary Geddes and Gibson Smith IV were both credited with two caused turnovers.

Delaware Notes

The Blue Hens improve to 13-5 overall and advance to face Cornell in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
JP Ward scored the game-winner with eight seconds remaining to advance the Blue Hens.
Drew Lenkaitis led UDel with two goals and three assists, Mike Robinson had two goals and an assist, Ward posted a pair of goals and Tye Kurtz, Mark Bieda and Nick Jessen each had lone goals.
Defensively, Grant Owen was credited with three caused turnovers and added four ground balls.
In goal, Matt Kelkeary collected 14 saves in the win.

How it Happened

Delaware jumped to an early 3-0 lead before the Hoyas battled back with two goals in the final 23 seconds of the first quarter to salvage a 4-3 score after 15 minutes.
Georgetown took its first lead of the game at 5-4 courtesy of two goals to kick off scoring in the second. Trading goals down the stretch, the Hoyas led 6-5 going into the break.
Coming out of halftime, the Hoyas outscored Delaware 2-1 in the third behind goals from Bundy and Haley to lead 8-6.
In the fourth, Morin found the back of the cage with 4:29 remaining to give GU a 9-7 lead but the Blue Hens scored three unanswered goals the rest of the way to complete the upset.
