ROCKVILLE, Md. - Just one day after
Nolan Matsko walked off on No. 16 UConn, junior
Christian Ficca knocked home the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly in the ninth to complete Georgetown's sweep over the Huskies 6-5 at Shirley Povich Field on Saturday. The Hoyas finished the regular season 32-22 overall with an 11-10 BIG EAST record while the Huskies dropped to 43-13 overall and 16-5 in conference action.
"What a great way to finish the regular season. I'm proud of our guys, our fight, our grit, our competitiveness, that's what Georgetown stands for. We needed all of our guys today and all six of our pitchers came on and did what was needed of them.
Ubaldo Lopez and
Cam Meyer came up with big hits in times when we needed them and were big momentum boosts.
Matt Stone made a heads up play behind the plate, saving a run by tagging a guy out. Everyone stepped up, did their job and it's really fun to see our guys compete at a high level. Now, we're on to the next season." - Head Coach
Edwin Thompson on today's win
