2022 Positional Preview: Tight Ends

WASHINGTON – With the 2022 campaign creeping closer and the Georgetown University football team opening the season at Marist on September 3, GUHoyas.com will take an in-depth look at each position with this edition featuring the team's wide receivers.

"There is a lot of turnover from last year to this year, with Liam McHale being the lone returner to the group," tight ends coach Jack McDaniels said. "But I think we've had some very valuable additions to the room and I'm excited for them."

The Hoyas' tight end group will be led by fifth-year Liam McHale, who made eight appearances last season and racked up six receptions for 73 yards while protecting the quarterback for the second-best passing offense in the Patriot League. He will be joined up front by graduate student Jack Tishman, who is making a leap from the team's secondary to the offensive side of the ball.

"Both are very vocal leaders and lead by example by taking the three younger guys under their wing," McDaniels added. "They are really well-respected not only in our position room but from the whole offense and the whole team. We're looking really good from the leadership standpoint. McHale is a veteran in the sense that he has playing experience and knows the standard and expectations while Tishman, being new to tight end, offers a unique perspective as a former quarterback and defensive back, provides an extra level of athleticism for the room and is a very selfless and team-oriented guy."

The duo will be joined on the line by Graham Murphey, a member of the 2021 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl and ACC Atlantic Division Championship-winning Wake Forest Demon Deacons, and freshmen Max McCormick and Connor O'Neil. Murphey

"Murphey is a nice addition to the group because he has a year of college experience under his belt, knows the expectations of a college football program and has played the position at a high level," McDaniels added.

The newcomers Max McCormick and Conor O'Neil have been "very impressive in their workouts over the last month" as they make their transition into their first year of collegiate football.

"Our one-eleventh is crucial in making sure that each play is executed," McDaniels said. "We have to be able to control what we can control and when we handle our one-eleventh, the rest will take care of itself."
