Hoyas Fall in Season Opener at Davidson

WASHINGTON- The Georgetown University field hockey team fell 1-0 against Davidson University in North Carolina on Friday. The Hoyas' comeback efforts fell just short as the Blue & Gray fell to 0-1 to open the 2022 season.
 
How it Happened
  • After a scoreless first quarter, the Blue & Gray began to put the pressure on in the second quarter. Sophie Towne was all over the midfield and had three shots in the first half. The score was deadlocked at zeros heading into halftime.
  • The Hoyas came out strong in the third quarter and dominated possession early, creating multiple opportunities in the opening minutes. With five minutes left in the quarter, Charlie Kabelac found the back of the net for Davidson. The third quarter ended with the Wildcats leading 1-0. 
  • The Blue & Gray gave it everything in the fourth but were unable to tie things up. Ciara Weets was stellar in the back, with multiple saves that kept the Hoyas in it.

  • The Hoyas were outshot 17-8 and trailed in corners 10-7.
  • Ciara Weets had ten saves on 17-faced shots
  • Sophie Towne and Emma Van Der Veen each had three shots
