Hoyas Top Saint Francis in Overtime

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown field hockey team secured a 1-0 victory over Saint Francis in overtime on Sunday. Vivienne Trumpbour scored her second overtime game winner of the season, and the Hoyas moved to 3-3.

Head Coach Christy Longacre
"It was a great team win on the road today. The entire bench contributed to the success on the field today and we plan to keep the momentum going into our first Big East week of games."

How it Happened
  • The first quarter was scoreless. The Blue & Gray was able to register two shots, both by Sophie Towne.
  • The second quarter was similar to the first, with neither team able to find the back of the cage.
  • Graduate Student Ciara Weets had a stellar first half with four saves that kept the score even.
  • The Hoyas came out of the break knocking on the door and creating many opportunities early in the period. With under two minutes left in the quarter, Saint Francis earned a penalty stroke. SFU's Madison Waldspurger stepped up to take it, but Ciara Weets denied the Red Flash of their best opportunity of the game.
  • After a scoreless fourth quarter, the game headed into overtime.
  • Four minutes into overtime, Trumpbour found the back of the net off an assist from Emma Van Der Veen, and the Hoyas secured the win, 1-0.

Of Note
  • Van Der Veen registered four shots and one assist.
  • Trumpbour scored her third goal of the season and her second game winner of the season in overtime.
  • Towne added two shots on frame.
  • Weets had nine saves, including a penalty stroke save.
