Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Georgetown Falls at St. John’s

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's soccer team fell 3-1 to the St. John's University Red Storm in the teams' BIG EAST opener on Friday evening at Belson Stadium. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 1-3-2 overall and 0-1-0 in the BIG EAST, and the Red Storm improve to 2-4-1 on the season and 1-0-0 in league play.

Head Coach Brian Wiese
  • "This is the second game in a row that we've made mistakes to put ourselves in a hole, and you can't do that against good teams like St. John's. I was proud of our response, and we'll see if we can tidy things up moving forward."
How it Happened
  • A miscue in the second minute of action put the Red Storm on the board right away.
  • As Georgetown attempted to regroup, a Hoya foul in the box gave St. John's a chance to double the lead as Brandon Knapp buried the penalty kick making it 2-0 just 23 minutes into the game.
  • The two-goal advantage would not stand for long as a foul allowed Georgetown an indirect kick from close range. Junior Marlon Tabora tapped it to senior Aidan Rocha who hit a perfect ball just under the crossbar to pull the Hoyas within one in the 25th minute of the contest. That score would stand at the half.
  • The Hoyas searched for the equalizer in the second half with a number of chances being stopped by Red Storm keeper Zenden Hart.
  • As Georgetown pushed, St. John's stood strong and managed to seal the victory as a Hoya was dispossessed at midfield and Antek Sienkiel hit a ball from 20-yards out into the back of the net making the score 3-1 which would stand as the final.
Of Note
  • Georgetown outshot St. John's 12-9 as the Hoyas and Red Storm both had four on goal..
  • GU was awarded three corner kicks to SJU's one in the game.
  • Graduate student Ethan Koehler took the loss in the net for the Hoyas with one save in the contest.
