Georgetown Drops Decision at James Madison

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's soccer team fell 2-0 to the James Madison University Dukes on Tuesday evening in Harrisonburg, Virginia. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 1-4-2 overall and the Dukes improve to 3-4 on the season.

How it Happened
  • As it has been all season, the Hoyas controlled play and looked dangerous throughout the first half.
  • James Madison had an early chance that was saved by keeper Ryan Schewe playing in his first intercollegiate game, but from that point on it was all Georgetown.
  • Late in the half, the Blue & Gray managed a flurry of shots after a Duke defender thought the play had been whistled dead, however, JMU keeper Sebastian Conlon made two big saves to keep it scoreless which would stand at the break.
  • The Dukes had a golden chance early in the second half that sailed just over the crossbar as the GU counter resulted in a high shot over the goal.
  • The Blue & Gray continued to pressure searching for the first goal of the match, but it was James Madison that looked the better side in the second half.
  • JMU struck first with a goal in the 81st minute off of a long run that went through a sliding Hoya defender to the back post to make it 1-0.
  • The Dukes would add another just two minutes later as a shot from distance was mishandled by Hoya keeper Luca Ulrich and crossed the line into the goal to make it 2-0 which would stand as the final.
Of Note
  • Georgetown outshot James Madison 18-12 as the Hoyas had six on goal and the Dukes managed four.
  • GU was awarded seven corner kicks to JMU's six in the game.
  • Schewe tallied the Blue & Gray's two saves in the match.
