WASHINGTON – The Georgetown field hockey team fell 2-1 to Long Island University in a hard-fought battle on Sunday afternoon at Cooper Field. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to a record of 3-5, while the Sharks advance to 3-5 for the season.
How it Happened
- The Sharks opened up scoring halfway into the first quarter with a goal from Alexis Ruiz off of a penalty corner.
- The second quarter was scoreless, with Long Island University leading 1-0 going into the half.
- The Hoyas tied up the game with a goal by Vivienne Trumpbour early in the third quarter. Trumpbour was assisted by Sophie Towne and Elena Leahy.
- The Hoyas gained momentum early in the fourth quarter, generating chances with three penalty corners and five shots, but they were unable to find the back of the net.
- With 19 seconds remaining in the game, the Sharks took the win with a goal by Emilce Paez, assisted by Kaitlyn Olton.
