Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Wiese Wins 200th as Hoyas Down Temple 5-2

WASHINGTON – The No. 19/9 Georgetown University men's soccer team scored five goals to pick up the 5-2 victory over the Temple Owls on Friday afternoon at Shaw Field. Additionally, the victory marked Head Coach Brian Wiese's 200th career victory at the helm.

Head Coach Brian Wiese
  • "It was a funny game because we got five goals and we got a win, but of the three games we've played so far this is the one you're least happy with. Our attacking defense and the chances we generated were what we've been working on in training so it was good to see those things manifest today. I was happy to see a lot of young guys come on, generate chances and score goals, but we have to be able to grow from this game as a group and evolve if we're going to compete for championships."
How it Happened
  • Temple (1-1-1) had an early chance called back, but from that point on the game belonged to the Hoyas.
  • In the seventh minute, freshman Jacob Murrell charged TU keeper Eoin Gawronski and forced a turnover. Murrell shot at the open net and buried it to make it 1-0.
  • Just five minutes later, it was Georgetown (1-1-1) again as senior Aidan Rocha sent a low ball into the box and junior Kyle Linhares redirected it to the front of the net for a waiting Max Viera who put it away to give the Hoyas the two-goal advantage.
  • The Hoyas kept swinging and added another to the scoreboard in the 30th minute as a shot from junior Marlon Tabora was saved but the rebound went to freshman Jack Panayotou who sent it right back making the score 3-0.
  • Temple came out ready in the second as a 1v1 was knocked off of the line by senior captain Daniel Wu.
  • The Owls continued to push, scoring on a penalty kick in the 58th minute and then added a second in the run of play just two minutes later to tighten things up.
  • It was a pass from Tabora to the back post in the 71st minute to make it 4-2 in favor of the Blue & Gray as sophomore Kieran Sargeant's shot was saved but he redirected the rebound in.
  • In the 88th minute, sophomore Ronan Dillow would give the Hoyas more breathing room when he got in behind the Owl backline and beat Gawronski 1v1 making the final 5-2.
Of Note
  • Georgetown outshot Temple 27-7 as the Hoyas had 14 on goal, and the Owls tallied three.
  • GU was awarded six corner kicks to Temple's three in the game.
  • Graduate student Ethan Koehler took the win in the net for the Hoyas.
  • Wiese is just the second coach in program history to hit the 200 wins mark.
  • The last five-goal game was a 5-1 victory against UConn during the COVID spring season in 2021.
