WASHINGTON – The No. 23/10 Georgetown women's soccer beat Creighton 4-0 on Sunday afternoon on Shaw Field. The match was the second of BIG EAST Conference play as the Hoyas rise to 2-0 in the conference and 6-1-3 overall and the Bluejays fall to 0-2 in the BIG EAST, 4-2-4 overall.
Head Coach Dave Nolan
"We knew it was going to be a tough game, Creighton is a very good soccer-playing team. The hardest part for us is that we play the same system as them which is rare to see and it looked like we had 11 one-on-one matchups across the field. I thought in the first half they were the better team. 4-0 flattered us, we had good fortune with the first goal then after that we gained confidence and looked better."
About the Match
- Georgetown's Natalie Means and Claire Manning got up and down the flanks to get opportunities for the Hoyas through the first third of the game.
- In the 35th minute Georgetown found possession outside the box and the ball found the feet of Gia Vicari. The senior took a defender on, beating her and taking a shot from the top of the crest. The ball dipped hard to the left and soared past the Bluejays' goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
- Just ten minutes later the Hoyas possessed the ball in Creighton's box and Boo Jackson took a shot that was deflected. Sophomore Maja Lardner was in the six ready for the follow-up and slotted the ball in the net to double the lead for Georgetown (2-0).
- Midfielder Tatum Lenain opened scoring less than five minutes into the second half when she launched a ball from 30-yards into the top left of the net (3-0).
- Creighton continued to battle and tested freshman keeper Cara Martin with three chances on goal and another six shots missing the frame throughout the two halves.
- The Blue & Gray kept the pressure high as they found themselves attacking in the final third with less than ten on the clock. The ball popped around the six-yard box and Means put her foot on it to get the Hoyas their final goal of the match (4-0).
- Creightion's Juelle Love challenged the GU backline with her speed as she tried to break down the defense to get her team a response, but she was not able to do so.
What Lies Ahead
- The Hoyas play a series of road games this week with a game against UConn on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. and DePaul on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m.
