Hollensteiner Named William V. Campbell Trophy Semifinalist

WASHINGTON – Graduate student Mac Hollensteiner was named one of 156 William V. Campbell Trophy Semifinalists by the National Football Foundation on Wednesday.

Hollensteiner has been a mainstay in the Georgetown lineup, playing 22 career games. He has been crucial in four games this season, helping the Hoya quarterbacks to a second-best 248.2 passing yards per game in the Patriot League. The graduate student has excelled off the field as well, working towards a master's degree in management while earning three Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selections with a 3.524 cumulative GPA.

He is also one of four selections from the conference, joining Fordham's Ryan Greenhagen, Bucknell's Brent Jackson and Holy Cross's Peter Oliver.

The Hoya offensive lineman is the second Hoya in as many years to earn a semifinalist spot, joining former teammate and defensive back Ahmad Wilson.

"4 for 40 is a core principle of our football program. By embracing the journey and the mission to improve by 1% each day in the classroom, on the field and in the Georgetown Community, our student-athletes strive to become the best holistic version of themselves. Mac Hollensteiner has and continues to live his academic and athletic life with an enthusiasm for the many challenges presented on a daily basis as a Georgetown student-athlete. Mac is a leader in the classroom, currently pursuing his Masters in Management at one of the top institutions in the country. He has been a mainstay on our offensive line and plays a very important role with our Leadership Council. I am proud to have Mac as a representative of our Hoya Football Family. Georgetown Football and the University as a whole have benefited from Mac's journey and contributions," Head Coach Rob Sgarlata said of Hollensteiner's selection

The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Oct. 26, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2022 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. The finalists will travel to Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas for the 64th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on Dec. 6, where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports.

Live during the event, one member of the class will be declared as the winner of the 33rd Campbell Trophy® and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000. Click here for more information on the Awards Dinner, including options to purchase tickets online, special travel rates to the event from Delta Air Lines and Bellagio and a concierge service provided by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

Nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee each, candidates for the awards must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators.

Launched in 1959, the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards Presented by Fidelity Investments celebrate their 64th year in 2022. The awards were the first initiative in history to grant postgraduate scholarships based on both a player's academic and athletic accomplishments, and the NFF has recognized 891 outstanding individuals since the program's inception. This year's postgraduate scholarships will push the program's all-time distribution to more than $12.3 million.
