Women’s Basketball Falls to Butler

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team fell 72-48 to the Butler University Bulldogs on Wednesday evening in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at McDonough Arena. With the loss, the Blue & Gray drops to 8-8 overall and 1-6 in BIG EAST play.

How it Happened
  • The Hoyas jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead before Butler (7-10, 2-6 BIG EAST) answered with a triple.
  • On two occasions, Georgetown would move ahead by as much as eight on buckets from junior Kelsey Ransom, however, a late 5-0 run made it 15-12 at the end of the first period.
  • The second quarter belonged to the Bulldogs as a 9-0 run allowed BU to take the lead, and a late 3-pointer made it 34-23 in favor of Butler at the half.
  • The Blue & Gray opened the scoring in the second half, but the Bulldogs answered back with an 8-0 run to grab the 15-point advantage.
  • Georgetown battled back to cut it to 10 as Ransom took over the game, but the Bulldogs had an answer once again scoring six late points to make it 48-32 at the end of the third quarter.
  • Butler kept hitting in the fourth and, despite a 7-0 run with some momentum, Georgetown would not find the answer, eventually falling 72-48.
Of Note
  • Ransom led the way with 16 points to go along with a team high six rebounds and four steals as well as three assists.
  • Senior captain Graceann Bennett tallied 14 points and five rebounds as the other Hoya in double figures.
  • The Hoyas shot 35.6% (21-59) from the field, while allowing 50.0% (26-52) shooting by the Bulldogs including a 54.2% (13-24) performance from beyond the arc.
  • Bench points made the difference as the Bulldogs had 54 to Georgetown's eight.
  • Georgetown was slightly outrebounded by BU 32-30 and the Hoyas forced 21 turnovers on eight steals.
