Hoyas Fall at No. 4/4 UConn

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Georgetown University women's basketball team fell 65-50 to the No. 4/4 University of Connecticut Huskies on Sunday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. With the loss, the Blue & Gray drops to 8-9 overall and 1-7 in BIG EAST play.

How it Happened
  • UConn (15-2, 8-0 BIG EAST) opened the scoring, but the first quarter belonged to the Blue & Gray.
  • The tenacious Hoya defense held the Huskies and sophomore Brianna Scott combined with graduate student Kristina Moore to go 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.
  • Down 9-6, freshman Kennedy Fauntleroy hit a jumper followed by a triple from Scott to put the Hoyas on top 11-9.
  • Senior Graceann Bennett added a layup as the Blue & Gray was up four. A late bucket by the Huskies made it 13-11 in favor of Georgetown at the end of the first period.
  • UConn came out firing in the second quarter going on a run to retake the lead and holding the Hoyas scoreless until a layup from sophomore Ariel Jenkins at 5:42.
  • Junior Jada Claude would drive the lane and tie the contest at 17 late in the first half, but UConn answered right back.
  • A Moore triple tied it again, but the Huskies would use free throws to hold the slight 24-23 advantage at the half.
  • Fouls changed the game in the third as UConn was able to build a 15-point lead from the line.
  • The Hoyas would not recover trailing 44-31 at the end of the third quarter.
  • Georgetown would stage a small run in the fourth as GU battled to get back in it. But the momentum was too little, too late as the Blue & Gray fell 65-50
Of Note
  • Scott led the way as the lone Hoya in double figures with 11 points and seven rebounds.
  • Fauntleroy added nine points, three assists and three steals, while junior Kelsey Ransom was active on defense managing five steals in the contest.
  • The Hoyas shot 32.2% (19-59) from the field, while allowing 41.3% (19-46) shooting by the Huskies.
  • The difference was in 22 free throws made by UConn.
  • The Hoyas were outrebounded 40-29, but forced 23 Husky turnovers on 11 steals.
