Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 8/7 Hoyas Shut Out Princeton, 3-0

WASHINGTON – The No. 8/7 Georgetown University men's soccer team shut out the Princeton University Tigers 3-0 on Tuesday evening in a nonconference matchup in Princeton, New Jersey at Myslik Field. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 7-1-1 on the season, while the Tigers drop to 3-4-1 for the year.

Head Coach Brian Wiese
  • "The team right now is finding ways to score goals and we have fun attacking pieces that are continuing to produce. It was a tricky game, Princeton is a tough team to deal with and we did a good job of managing that. I was happy to see Tenzing (Manske) step up with another shutout, and we got another great game from Marlon Tabora  as well. Between him and Jacob Murrell giving us pretty much a goal a game, our offense is really
clicking. Everyone is working for each other right now and I'm excited to get back into league play to see what we can do."

How it Happened
  • Georgetown continued its streak of early goals finding the back of the net in just the 13th minute. Senior Marlon Tabora slid it into the box from the right side and found the foot of sophomore Zach Zengue who tallied his fourth goal on the season to make it 1-0.
  • Just nine minutes later, the Blue & Gray doubled the score on another assist by Tabora as he centered it for GU leading scorer Jacob Murrell to make it 2-0. It also marked Murrell's eighth goal on the season as well as Tabora's fifth assist.
  • That score would stand at the half despite more shots from the Tigers in the period.
  • Princeton would not go away as the Tigers continued to search for a way to get back into the match, but the impressive play of sophomore keeper Tenzing Manske kept the clean sheet for the Hoyas.
  • In the 70th minute, junior Joe Buck added an insurance goal as he dribbled through the defense and fired. His shot deflected off of a Princeton defender's head and went into the goal to make it 3-0, which would stand as the final.
Of Note
  • Georgetown narrowly outshot Princeton, 11-10, and the Hoyas had eight shots on goal while the Tigers managed six.
  • GU was awarded five corner kicks to Princeton's four in the game.
  • Manske took the shutout in the net with five saves for the day.
  • The match marked the sixth time this season Georgetown has scored in the first 15 minutes of action and continued its season-long streak of scoring a goal in the first 31 minutes of play.
