WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team lost to the Brown University Bears, 45-43, on Sunday afternoon in a nonconference matchup at McDonough Arena. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 2-1 on the season and the Bears improve to 1-2 for the year.
Interim Head Coach Darnell Haney
- "I thought we did a good job against a good Brown team, they make you have to guard different looks which is similar to teams in our conference and we have to be ready for that. I think we did a good job of that defensively, but we didn't execute on offense. When you do not execute on a consistent basis, it makes it difficult. We are going to go back and watch the film to see where we can improve."
How it Happened
- Brown opened the scoring, but a jumper from sophomore Victoria Rivera sparked a 9-0 run for the Blue & Gray to take the 9-2 lead.
- The Bears would continue to answer, before six quick points from graduate students Alex Cowan and Mya Bembry put GU on top 18-11 at the end of the first quarter.
- Bembry kept it going to begin the second quarter, but the period belonged to Brown as the Bears managed a 15-8 run over the quarter to tie the contest at 26 in the last minute before the break.
- The third quarter was quiet for both teams with graduate student Graceann Bennett starting the scoring, but Brown answering back with six points.

- Georgetown clung to a one-possession lead throughout the final stanza.
- At 1:52, Ransom drove the lane and put GU up by two, however, Brown answered with a triple with 41 seconds to go to move ahead.
- The final seconds saw multiple chances and reviews as GU had a chance under 10 seconds but it rimmed out as the Hoyas eventually fell 45-43.
