Georgetown Football Closes Out 2023 Season at No. 25/RV Holy Cross

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team (5-5, 3-2 PL) will finish the 2023 season on the road against No. 25/RV Holy Cross (6-4, 4-1 PL) on Saturday, November 18. Kickoff is slated for noon at Fitton Field. With a win over the Crusaders and a Lafayette loss to Lehigh on Saturday, the Blue & Gray would clinch a share of the Patriot League title for the first time in program history.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas are coming off of a 50-47 overtime win against Bucknell last weekend. 
  • Against the Bison, GU's defense totaled five sacks for a loss of 32 yards and 13 tackles for a loss of 56 yards. The defense also picked up two interceptions, one forced fumble, six broken up passes and three quarterback pressures.
  • Naiteitei Mose was named Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance at Bucknell. The sophomore linebacker  scooped up an attempted onside kickoff by Bucknell and returned it for a 46-yard touchdown to extend the Hoyas lead 30-15. 
  • Senior linebacker David Ealey helped produce opportunities for the Hoyas' offense with an interception and forced fumble that were both converted into touchdowns. 
  • Jimmy Kibble is on a roll with two touchdown receptions in each of GU's last two games, including the game tying touchdown against Bucknell.The sophomore wide receiver leads the Blue & Gray this season with seven touchdown catches and is tied for second in the Patriot League. Kibble also set a new program record for his longest reception of 95 yards against the Bison. 
  • The Hoyas are ranked fifth in the FCS in passing efficiency defense at 109.14 passing efficiency. GU has three athletes with two interceptions for a league best of 10 this season. The Blue & Gray are also leading the Patriot League in total defense with an average of 310.2 yards per game. 
ABOUT THE HOLY CROSS CRUSADERS 
  • Holy Cross is coming off of a 17-14 loss at Army last Saturday. 
  • Senior wide receiver Jalen Coker caught one touchdown pass at Army to up his FCS-leading total to 14 and is now two touchdown catches away from breaking the Patriot League single-season record of 15. 
  • Holy Cross fifth-year linebacker Jacob Dobbs is six tackles shy of breaking the Patriot League career total tackles record of 425, held by Lee Picariello (Lehigh) and David Streeter (Holy Cross). Dobbs is currently second in the FCS with 13.9 tackles per game.
  • Quarterback Matthew Sluka is 15th in the FCS with 19 touchdown passes despite missing two games this season. Sluka is sixth in the FCS in passing efficiency (164.1). The Walter Payton Award Watch List selection again leads all FCS QBs in rushing (1,086 yards) after accomplishing the same feat last season (1,234 yards). 
THE MATCHUP
  • The Hoyas and the Crusaders will meet for the 35th time in program history, with the Hoyas holding an 11-23 record in the series that began in 1904. 
  • The last time the Hoyas defeated Holy Cross was a 45-7 win at Fitton Field in 2015.
