HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Georgetown University women's basketball team made it six in a row downing the Colgate University Raiders 61-40 on Tuesday evening at Cotterell Court in Hamilton, New York in a nonconference matchup. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 8-1 on the season and the Raiders drop to 4-3 for the year.
Interim Head Coach Darnell Haney
- "We didn't start off the right way, but we honed in on our principles and got into our groove staying on them and staying aggressive. We got some great contributions from a lot of people today. Brianna Scott was tremendous in the post, Kelsey Ransom continued to be impressive. It didn't show up on the stat sheet, but Mya Bembry and Mayla Ham were both really good. We just got a lot of contributions from a lot of people today and that's just who we are. We do this thing as a team and we're going to get different contributions from different people each night. We know we have a lot of people that can help us win games."
How it Happened
- Colgate jumped out to a 10-4 lead forcing the Hoyas to call timeout to stop the momentum early in the first quarter.
- Looking at a three-point deficit, a layup from senior guard Kelsey Ransom sparked a 12-2 run to put the Hoyas in the lead.
- The Raiders would hit a late 3-pointer to make it 16-15 in favor of the Hoyas at the end of the first quarter.
- The second quarter belonged to the Hoyas as they caught fire from beyond the arc.
- A layup from Ransom at 6:23 was followed by a triple from junior Brianna Scott as GU put together a dominant 19-2 run.
- The run included nine points from Scott and by the end of the half, Georgetown held the comfortable 38-23 advantage.
- Colgate would cut the lead to 13, but the tandem of Ransom and Scott never let it get any closer as the pair combined for five quick points.
- From that point on, GU held Colgate without a point for more than five minutes and the Blue & Gray sat on top 51-31 at the end of the third.
- Georgetown would control the momentum throughout the final period, and Colgate never had an opportunity to mount a comeback.
- As the Hoyas used smothering defense as well as hitting big shots on the other end, the Blue & Gray would never let up, eventually winning 61-40.
Of Note
- Scott led the way for the Hoyas with 21 points to go along with a team-best eight rebounds as well as three steals and two blocks.
- Ransom was also in double figures managing 18 points, three rebounds and as many steals.
- Graduate student Graceann Bennett tied Scott with eight boards in the game, while classmate Alex Cowan had four helpers to her credit.

- GU outrebounded CU 36-28, and Georgetown forced 14 Raider turnovers on 10 steals.
- Alexa Brodie led Colgate with 10 points as the lone Raider in double figures.
- GU's 8-1 record ties the best start for the Hoyas since the BIG EAST Conference began sponsoring women's basketball. The best start in program history dates back to a 16-1 record to open the 1979-80 campaign.
- The last time Georgetown won six-consecutive games was the 2016-17 season.
