Hoyas Drop Game Two to Presbyterian

CARY, N.C.– After falling behind early, the Hoyas were never able to erase the deficit losing 5-2 to Presbyterian. Two home runs from Owen Carapellotti and Cam Meyer served as the only GU tallies of the game. The Hoyas move to 1-1 on the season while Presbyterian evens their record at 1-1.

ON THE RECORD
"Have to give Presbyterian a lot of credit, they did an awesome job today. They kept us off balance at the plate and we didn't defend at the level we are capable of and that was the ballgame. Tomorrow, we have a chance to win a series and that's the exciting part and our guys are ready to get back after it." - Head Coach Edwin Thompson.

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Andrew Williams had five strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work.
  • Ubaldo Lopez, Owen Carapellotti, Cam Meyer and Austin Kretzschmar were all able to record hits with Carapellotti having the best day at the plate going 2-of-4 with a double and home run.
  • Meyer added a solo shot in the seventh for his only hit of the day.
  • Colin Garner had four strikeouts in 1.2 innings of relief.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game was scoreless through two innings as Andrew Williams was in control on the mound. In the top of the third, Presbyterian was able to put three on the board before GU got out of the inning.
  • After a scoreless top of the fourth, Carapellotti hit a screamer over the scoreboard in right field to get the Hoyas on the board on the solo shot.
  • After Carapellotti's home run in the fourth the score would hold in a defensive battle until the top of the seventh.
  • In the seventh, Collin Garner came in with two on and no outs before walking one to load the bases. Garner struck one out before walking another as the Blue Hose took a 4-1 lead.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Cam Meyer had a solo shot to left to bring GU within two.
  • In the eighth inning, Presbyterian would strike with two outs on an errant throw to second. On the ensuing play, GU had another miscommunication on a throw to second and PC advanced a runner to third with two outs.
  • GU was unable to mount a comeback in the second half of the ninth and dropped game two of the series, 5-2.

OF NOTE
  • GU accumulated 13 strikeouts from four different pitchers on the day.
  • Georgetown has hit three home runs in their first two games after setting a program record with 98 last season.
