Georgetown Goes 2-0 at Day 1 of NSU-Hampton Classic

WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball went 2-0 at the NSU-Hampton Classic with wins over Bucknell and Wagner. The Hoyas clinched their first win of the season over Bucknell 9-5 and a second win over Wagner 6-0. The Blue & Gray are now 2-5 in the 2023 season.
 
How It Happened
 
Vs. the Bison
  • Bucknell scored first in the bottom of the first with a single by Savannah Jones to right centerfield (1-0).
  • With bases loaded in the third inning, Georgetown's Cameron Kondo clapped back smashing a homer to left field to bump the score to 4-1.
  • The Hoyas doubled the score in the fifth inning starting with Claire Turner crossing home from a double hit by Gianna Sciullo (5-1).
  • Sciullo advanced later in the inning off a wild pitch to make it 6-1 and then Brittany Lew scored from a similar wild pitch on the next play making it 7-1 to the Hoyas.
  • Kondo found herself at the plate again in the fourth and advanced to second from a passed ball to bring Morgan Zamora home (8-1).
  • To cap off the inning for Georgetown, Samantha Miller got on base from a fielding error by the Bison and Lorena Vasquez-Inzunza added a ninth run.
  • Bucknell tallied two runs from a single in the bottom of the fourth inning (9-3). The Bison then added a fourth run off a walk and a fifth from SAC fly (9-5).
  • Brooke Plonka took the win from the circle for GU.
 
Vs. the Seahawks
  • Turner started off the scoring for the Hoyas in the second inning against Wagner when she singled up the middle to bring Vasquez-Inzunza and Kacy Lyman home (2-0).
  • In the third inning, Vasquez-Inzunza hit a SAC fly to center field where Mae Forshey and Zamora added two more runs (4-0).
  • To close out scoring, Gabby Nemarich scored from a fly out by Kondo followed by Vasquez-Inzunza getting a final run from a single by Lyman to make it 6-0.
  • Plonka earned her second win from the circle.

Georgetown plays Lehigh tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. and Norfolk State at 3 p.m. both games are at NSU.
