Georgetown Closes Out Day 2 of NSU-Hampton Classic

WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball closed out the second day of the NSU-Hampton Classic 0-2 after falling to Lehigh and Norfolk State. Georgetown is now 2-5 on the season. 

 

How It Happened

Vs. the Mountain Hawks

  • Lehigh opened scoring with a double to left field from Sydney Parlett (1-0).

  • Georgetown tied the game in the bottom of the second with a single up the middle which Kiaris Alvarado Rojas capitalized on to cross home (1-1). 

  • The Hoyas found a rhythm in the third inning with runs from Gianna Sciullo, Kacy Lyman, Mae Forshey and Kayla Dunn off of hits from Cameron Kondo and Forshey (5-1).

  • The Mountain Hawks caught a break in the bottom of the fourth inning when Emily Cimino hit a three-run homer out of left center field (5-4).

  • In the sixth inning, Amanda Greaney singled to left center field to bring Brooke Cannon home to tie the game 5-5.

  • Georgetown and Lehigh were forced into extra innings and played through 13 innings. Although the Hoyas added a run from Lyman to make it 6-5 heading into the bottom of the 13th inning, Lehigh came back with a double and a single to take the win 7-6.

  • Brooke Plonka is now 1-2 from the circle for the Blue & Gray.

 

Vs. the Spartans

  • Norfolk State put up three runs in the first inning from a walk, single to left field and a ground out to make it 3-0.

  • In the third inning, Rylie Gilbreath doubled to center field for two RBIs making it 5-0.

  • GU's Sciullo tried to bring the Hoyas back into the fold with a homer out of center field in the fifth inning, but NSU tacked on a sixth run in the sixth inning to take the 6-1 win.

 

Up Next

Georgetown is back in action next weekend as it heads to Wilmington, North Carolina for the UNCW Tournament.
