Hoyas Split Sunday Doubleheader with 13-2 Win Over Iona

Wilmington, N.C.– The Georgetown University baseball team pitched 27-consecutive shutouts innings en route to their third consecutive win, downing Iona 13-2 at the Carolina Coastline Classic. In the second game of the day, GU fell to UNCW 9-3.

ON THE RECORD
"Another great win. Really proud of our guys to come out and really compete but the story today was Jake Bloss. Bloss was dominant today as dominant as he has been and throughout the day he pitched really well. He commanded all of the pitches that he had and he gave us a spot start when we needed it and came in and did a good job. Defensively we did well and offensively, Owen Carapellotti had a big hit there that helped us out. But overall, just really proud of our guys off the bench. Travis Ilitch with his first career hit, Luke Bauer with his first career hit and Jordan Khan with his first career RBI, it was great to see those guys come off the bench and still give us some length in the back part of that game was really encouraging to see."  - Head Coach Edwin Thompson on game one against Iona

"Give UNC Wilmington starter Zane Taylor a lot of credit he was phenomenal today. He was really difficult to hit and had all three pitches working. Proud of our guys' fight but unfortunately came up a little bit short. But you know we battled there to get it to a three run, game in the back half of the game we just didn't come up with runs when we needed them. Overall, again we went 4-1 on the week which is hard to do and I am really proud of our guys to get three wins this weekend and I like how we are playing. Cody Bowker was just really outstanding for us today, giving us a great shot of life in the middle part of the game to hold the score like it was. Jordan Yoder has also been really good for us as well and it was good to see that from our guys. Really proud of our guys after a long week on the road but it will only help us out down the line." - Head Coach Edwin Thompson on game two against UNCW
