Hoyas Fall at Marquette

MILWAUKEE – The Georgetown University women's basketball team dropped a 66-49 decision to the Marquette University Golden Eagles on Saturday evening in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at the Al McGuire Center. With the loss, the Blue & Gray falls to 12-11 overall and 5-9 in BIG EAST play.

How it Happened
  • It started out tied at six before Marquette (15-8, 8-6 BIG EAST) staged a 10-0 run as the Blue & Gray went cold.
  • Junior captain Kelsey Ransom would keep the Hoyas in the game scoring nine points in the period as the Hoyas trailed 18-11 at the end of the first.
  • Marquette would own the second quarter as the Golden Eagles built a 17-point lead.
  • In the closing minutes of the first half, senior Graceann Bennett cleaned up the glass with a pair of putbacks and the squads traded buckets to make it 36-23 at the half.
  • MU took an 18-point lead early in the second half, but the Hoyas chipped away at it to cut it to 13 on a bucket from senior Kristina Moore forcing a Marquette timeout.
  • The Golden Eagles came roaring back in the quarter to lead 59-36 at the end of the third period.
  • GU would find some momentum late in the game, but it would not be enough to mount a comeback as the Blue & Gray eventually fell 66-49.
Of Note
  • Ransom led Georgetown with 23 points and seven rebounds as well as one steal. She was the lone Hoya in double figures in the game.
  • The Hoyas shot 37.3% (22-59) from the field, and the Blue & Gray allowed 41.9% (26-62) shooting by the Golden Eagles.
  • GU was outrebounded by Marquette 40-34 in the game, and Georgetown forced 12 Golden Eagle turnovers on five steals.
