Georgetown Falls to Villanova in Series Final

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown softball team fell to Villanova 16-2 on Sunday in the final game of a three-game series with the Wildcats. Georgetown went 1-2 on the weekend with an 8-3 win and a 8-6 loss to VU yesterday. The Hoyas are now 4-15 overall, 1-2 in the BIG EAST.
 
How It Happened
  • The Wildcats went on a scoring spree through the first few innings of today's game. Villanova tabbed a two RBI double to go up 2-0 in the top of the first and then added a two-run home run to make it 4-0.
  • Outfielder Cameron Kondo stepped up in the bottom of the first and launched a ball out of left center field to cut VU's lead to 4-1.
  • In the second inning, Villanova hit an RBI double and then in the same play took advantage of a missed throw to bump the score to 6-1.
  • Later in the inning, the Wildcats hit two RBI singles and stole home (9-1).
  • Villanova tacked on six runs in the third inning from two RBI singles, a batter hit by a pitch, a ground out to second, a walk and a SAC fly to make it 15-1.
  • Kondo responded in the bottom of the third with a second homer of the game struck past right center field (15-2).
  • The Wildcats closed out with an RBI single to make the final score 16-2.
  • Brooke Plonka, Julia Parker and Kayla Dunn all saw time in the circle for the Hoyas.
 
Up Next
The Hoyas are set to play Hampton University on Wednesday, March 15 at 3 p.m. at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy.
