Georgetown Women’s Golf in Second After One Round at BIG EAST Championships

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's golf team is currently in second place after shooting a 29-over 317 in the first round of the 2023 BIG EAST Championships Presented by JEEP, held on the par-72, 6,170 yard course at the Riverton Pointe Golf and Country Club in Hardeeville, South Carolina. The Hoyas are 13 strokes behind Xavier and have a quartet of Hoyas among the top 10.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gabriella Gilrowski is currently tied for third after carding a 5-over 77. She birdied on holes 10 and 14 and closed the day with pars on three of the final four holes.
  • Kaitlyn Lees also tallied a pair of birdies in the first round with both of hers on the front nine (holes 4 and 7) to close the round tied for sixth at 7-over 79.
  • Lauren May is in sole possession of ninth place with an 8-over 80 and yet another Hoya with a pair of birdies on the day (holes 4 and 14).
  • Esther Park led the squad with a trio of birdies, opening the first hole with a birdie and tallying back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16. She is currently tied for 10th place at 9-over 81.
  • Megan Gormley carded an 11-over 83 to sit in a tie for 17th with birdies on 3 and 15.
  • Georgetown's 11 birdies leads the field with Xavier second with eight, however the Musketeers have tallied a field-best 52 pars to GU's 39.

  • Round 2 is scheduled for Tuesday and Round 3 is set for Wednesday. The first tee time is scheduled for 8 a.m. with the Hoyas starting at 8:50 a.m.
