Georgetown Drops Decision at St. John’s

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team fell 5-3 to the St. John's University Red Storm on Saturday afternoon in Queens, New York in the second of a three-game series in BIG EAST Conference play. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 14-27 overall and 7-10 in the BIG EAST.

How it Happened
  • The Hoyas opened up the scoring in the top half of the first with a two-out solo home run by Mae Forshey. The Hoyas then followed that up with three-straight walks to load the bases, which led to another run as Gabby Park singled up the middle to bring home Kayla Dunn for a 2-0 Hoya lead.
  • The Blue & Gray kept its foot on the gas in the top of the second as, again with two outs, Forshey brought home Claire Turner on an RBI single to put the Hoyas up 3-0.
  • The Red Storm would battle back in the bottom of the third, loading up the bases and then scoring two runs on a two-out RBI single to cut the Hoya lead to just one.
  • St. John's would continue their momentum into the bottom of the fourth, hitting three-straight singles to bring home a run and tie the game at 3-3.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, the Red Storm would strike again, hitting back-to-back solo home runs to begin the half inning, gaining the lead for the first time and putting St. John's up 5-3.
  • The Hoyas left runners on base in the sixth, and then were shut down in the seventh, as St. John's would prevail and win thanks to their five unanswered runs by a score of 5-3.
Of Note
  • Forshey led the way for the Hoyas offensively, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs including a solo home run in the first inning.
  • Only two other Hoyas recorded hits, with Dunn going 1-for-3 and Park going 1-for-3 as well with an RBI.
  • In the circle, Brooke Plonka went four innings for the Hoyas, allowing two earned runs while striking out five in the contest and was tagged with the loss.
